Country Context
Uganda’s coffee Industry
Uganda “The Pearl of Africa” is a member country of the East African Community, with a largely tropical climate and altitudes favorable for coffee farming. It is widely known as the birthplace of Robusta coffee, a type that is widely grown in almost all parts of the country. Arabica is grown in the high altitude ranges of Mt. Rwenzori and Mt. Elgon regions in the South Western and Eastern regions respectively.
Coffee is Uganda’s highest income earner benefitting millions of coffee farmers and also the highest exported commodity from the country with over 6 million bags in the 21-22 season (UCDA). Uganda coffee is growing in popularity within the specialty coffee community with more and more roasters, baristas and coffee lovers appreciating the wide range of flavour profiles of Ugandan Arabica. Ugandan Robusta’s are a popular choice for producing excellent coffee blends and soluble coffee.
