About Sukuma
Sukuma Commodities Ltd is a Ugandan second-generation coffee value-chain business. Our name is rooted in a little-known village southwest of Uganda.
Our humble beginnings started in the early 1970s with a small coffee garden. Our founders’ passion for coffee farming earned them recognition as some of the pioneer farmers of the improved Clonal Robusta coffee in the early 1980s — a species now widely known for its high yields and premium bean size.

Farmer & staff stories
I joined the Sukuma farm in 2019. I take part in harvesting coffee. Sukuma has enabled me to look after my family, feed my children, and pay their school fees — things I could not do before as a single mother. I have also been able to buy a piece of land and set up my own coffee garden. This job has made my life better.
Before Sukuma started operations in this area, I only had under 2 acres of coffee that I could not ably take care of. Through the company credit schemes, I got farm inputs and fertilisers that helped me revamp my garden and increase yields by three times.
Before Sukuma came, I could not add value to my coffee because of transport costs to the main trading centre. Now I process at the Sukuma buying unit, get better prices, and use husks as mulch. I even intercrop with bananas — hitting two birds with one stone.
Many farmers in this sub-county could not benefit from our coffee because of long distances and dishonest local traders. Sukuma supports us with farm inputs, gives us good prices and pays on time. Their machinery processes our coffee with honesty and less labour.
